The Mount Carmel Area Symphonic Band will present their annual spring concert on Saturday, April 26th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Richard F. Beierschmitt Auditorium. Song selections from the concert will include the famous march “Washington Post”, “Danse Infernale” by Stravinsky, Jose Padilla’s “El Relicario” and many more. As in years past, the concert will feature a guest soloist. Serving as this year’s guest soloist is Lebanon Valley College saxophone professor, Thomas Strohman. Strohman is Associate Professor of Music at Lebanon Valley College where he directs the Jazz Bands and Sax Ensamble and teaches Saxophone, Jazz Studies, and Orchestration. Strohman will perform “The Carnival of Venice”, on flute, and the standard “Someone to Watch Over Me”, on alto saxophone. The MCA Symphonic Band is under the direction of Bernard Stellar. Tickets can be purchased by calling the high school band room at 339-1500, extension 3139, from any band member or band parent, or at the door the night of the show. Tickets are four dollars for adults and two dollars for students and senior citizens.
Born in Lebanon, PA in 1952, Tom Strohman started playing piccolo at the age of six. Under the tutelage of his father, H. Herbert Strohman, Tom studied flute, saxophone and clarinet. He continued his studies at Lebanon Valley College with Frank Stachow, eventually graduating with a B.S. in Music Education. In addition to earning a MM.. in Jazz Performance from Towson University, Tom has also studied with Joe Allard, Phil Woods, Walter Bishop, Jr., Adolphe Sandole, Charles DeLaney and John Oberbrunner. |
