On Friday, March 14th, students in grades 9-12 spent their day in the gym and natatorium taking part in physical activities in the annual Hoops for Heart event, sponsored by the Interact Club. This year students had the opportunities to participate in a free throw contest, a three point contest, as well as a 3 on 3 tournament. Winners of the contests on the girls side were Tracy Stutzcage, free-throw, Brynna Ditchey, three point, and the team of Sara Novack, Jill Bozza, and Stutzcage, took home the 3 on 3 championship. Boys winners were Billy Ditchey, free-throw, Andrew Gushen, three point, and Mark Costello, Seth Scicchitano, and Mike Domaleski won the 3 on 3.
The students had to contribute at least 15 dollars worth of donations towards the Interact Club goal of $2,000 to participate, but the students had an added incentive this year. Club advisors Mrs. Diane Rumbel and Mrs. Cheryl Latorre vowed to have their hair painted red if the students reached the goal. Needless to say, with a grand total of $2,097, the two kept their word and could be seen showing a little more school spirit than usual. “It was a very rewarding event,” commented Mrs. Latorre. “It was a fun day of physical activity for the school which benefited the American Heart Association. With heart attacks being the number three cause of death in the United States, things like this are very important to help raise awareness.”
